The Urban Elegance

A refined Docklands apartment shaped by warm timber joinery, soft stone textures and practical urban living.

A Calm Urban Apartment Defined by Warm Joinery, Stone Textures and Refined Everyday Function.

Located in Melbourne’s Docklands, The Urban Elegance is a refined apartment renovation completed in 2023. The project reimagines compact urban living through a calm material palette, clean architectural lines and highly considered custom joinery.

Fantaci was engaged to transform the kitchen, bathrooms, bedroom, laundry and wardrobe areas, creating a home that feels brighter, warmer and more cohesive while maintaining a strong sense of contemporary elegance.

The design balances soft neutral tones with warm timber textures, stone-look surfaces and subtle black detailing. Across each space, storage, functionality and visual simplicity were carefully integrated to support everyday living without compromising the apartment’s refined aesthetic.

Kitchen

The kitchen is the central feature of the apartment, designed as both a functional cooking space and a warm gathering point. A soft neutral cabinetry palette is paired with Verona White stone surfaces, creating a bright and elegant foundation. The island introduces a sculptural quality, while timber shelving brings warmth and display functionality to the space. A gunmetal kitchen faucet and black appliances add definition without overpowering the overall softness of the design. The layout was carefully planned to maximise storage and usability within the apartment setting, with integrated cabinetry, open display shelving and a considered balance between concealed and visible elements.

Bathroom

The bathrooms continue the project’s calm and tactile language, using grey stone-look tiles, soft cabinetry tones and black fixtures to create a refined sanctuary-like feel. Large-format grey tiles provide depth and texture, while the floating vanity, round basin and softly illuminated mirror add a sense of lightness. The design introduces warmth through timber accents and subtle styling, allowing the bathrooms to feel practical yet elevated. The aim was to create bathrooms that feel clean, comfortable and visually consistent with the rest of the apartment.

Laundry

The laundry was designed to feel integrated rather than purely utilitarian. By using the same cabinetry language as the rest of the apartment, the space becomes part of the home’s overall design story. Stacked appliances, compact storage and a small functional sink area were arranged to maximise efficiency within a limited footprint. Soft neutral joinery and timber overhead cabinetry keep the space warm and visually consistent.

Bedrooms & Wardrobes

The bedroom was designed with simplicity and comfort in mind. Warm timber wardrobe doors create a natural focal point, while soft bedding, neutral tones and minimal furniture keep the room calm and uncluttered. The wardrobe design provides practical storage while maintaining a clean architectural presence. Its timber finish ties back to the open shelving and joinery details used throughout the apartment, giving the whole home a cohesive material rhythm.

Living Room & Entrance Joinery

The living room and entrance areas continue the apartment’s warm and refined joinery language. A custom TV cabinet creates a clean focal point for the living space, combining concealed storage with open timber shelving for display. Near the entrance, a built-in display cabinet introduces warmth and structure, offering a considered place for books, ceramics and decorative objects. Both elements were designed to feel integrated rather than added on, bringing storage, atmosphere and visual continuity to the home’s shared living areas.

A stone-look porcelain platform adds visual weight and material contrast, balancing the warmth of the timber with a soft neutral surface. Designed for both everyday use and quiet display, the living area brings together practical storage, concealed functionality and a calm, elevated atmosphere.
